"Bengals" are TICA registered Domestic Cats that have the exotic look of their wild cousin, the Asian Leopard Cat. They are the most intelligent of all Domestic Cats and make loving companions. Some of their characteristics have been described as "dog-like," for instance, they enjoy playing fetch, often like to go for walks on a leash, and they always greet you at the door. Bengals have a "pelt," rather than cat hair and they are smooth and silky to the touch, as well as, for most people, Non-Allergenic. There are a variety of colorations and "wild" pelt patterns recognized by The International Cat Association (TICA). The three recognized colorations are: Brown/Black, Silver, and Snow. A coloration anomoly is "Blue" (grey with champagne) and is currently not an accepted TICA color. Melanistic (all black, without any "spots") is also an unaccepted anomoly. Bengals have two pelt patterns: Spotted/Rosetted (Leopard-like) and Marbled (like a Clouded Leopard).
Bengals truly do have it all - they are completely Domestic House Cats that just look "wild." And they are different from other breeds of Domestic Cats in their personalities as well. Bengals are highly intelligent and will delight you with how they work out a problem. They are affectionate, curious, playful, athletic, enjoy being with their humans, have an affinity for moving water, and can easily learn to understand what their Owners want and/or don't want. Bengals are a lot of fun to be around and are most definitely a member of the family.
