Kitten Care - Safe and Effective Cat Litter

Our experience with Cat Litter is that the non-clay (Corncob, Pine, Wheat, Green tea, or Paper based) Litters are healthier for your Kitten or Cat and that these types function better than clay-based Litter. There are many types and brands of non-clay cat litter available and you, and your Kitten, may prefer a different type than what our Cattery uses, but we have found through experience that the Pine-based litter works best for us.

• Pellet Pine litter works extremely well and we use Feline Pine in our home and in our Cat Habitats.  It does not clump, but turns to fine particles when soiled with urine, then the particles fall through the specially designed inner grid to the solid bottom pan of the litter box.  This "saw dust" is easily removed by simply lifting off the top sifting box and pouring the soiled particals out of the box and into the trash or compost bin. The solid deposits are easily removed by a specially designed litter scoop that sifts out the excrement and lets the still usable pellets stay in the litter box.  The special litter box and scoop can be purchased from "Feline Pine" - just call the 800 number on the bag of litter or go to FelinePine.com.  The natural, safe, and fresh-smelling pine keeps the smell of urine in the tray below... so, your house will never have that embarrassing litter box odor that clay and other litters can create.  It is the best system that we have ever used... and beleive me... we have tried them all!

CAT HEALTH ALERT

The dust in clay based litters is very hazardous for all Kittens and Cats. As they dig to cover their excrement and raise the fine dust, they breath it into their lungs -- this can cause respiratory distress syndrome. Also, when they exit their litter box and "wash up," the dust is then ingested and can cause severe intestinal problems and sometimes, especially in Kittens, death. Please do NOT use clay-based Cat Litters.

• We have also used a litter by "Nature's Miracle" for the Kittens and Cats in our home. This is a wheat and pine based clumping Cat Litter. It is 99.9% dust free, hard clumping, pleasantly pine scented, and safe for Kittens and Cats. This product is also lighter than clay litters (therefore, easier on your back!) and environmentally friendly. Currently, we are only using Feline Pine for all of our Cats and Kittens and they are trained to use the pellet pine litter.

Visit www.NatureMakesItWork.com and www.FelinePine.com for more information about these Cat litter products, which are preferred by our Cattery.
